Welcome

Like a family friend I will lead you through Rome's maze of cobbled streets, as you take in the city's many monuments. Snippets of salient historical context, stories of emperors, popes, princes, artists and anecdotes will help you appreciate what you are seeing. Answering your questions, shedding light on local customs and helping you gain an understanding of Rome and the Romans, all in the space of a few hours, is what it is all about. I can save you time, money and frustration: advise you on where to buy tickets to avoid the queues, help you make sense of the public transport system and give you recommendations on where to find the best gelato or family-run "trattoria". My aim is for you to make the most of your time in the Eternal City.

All my itineraries are handcrafted in that they are tailored to your interests, taking into account the time of year, practical considerations such as how much or how little walking you would like to do. I do not run group tours at fixed times: you choose the date, time of day and itinerary. Take a look at some sample itineraries for inspiration and we can then work together on building the combination of your choice.

Treat yourself to the insight gained by going beyond the obvious highlights, either within Rome itself or by taking an excursion outside the city to see classics like Tivoli and Ostia Antica. Visit small villages, ancient burial sites, lovely gardens and in the summer swim in the lakes. Enjoy the countryside and absorb the timelessness of rural life. For these outings we will use an 8-seater air-conditioned mini-bus with a driver, who is also available for airport transfers, excursions from Civitavecchia and other journeys.

The Eternal City is deeply memorable even though at first it can be hard to know where to start.
